When things just work!

So this is my first blog entry. The reason I am writing this is as I have to tell the world (or who ever is reading this), about the most wonderful experience I have ever had with a piece of technology.

I have spent the last 24 years of my life involved with computers and technology. I have seen the industry grow and have always commented to myself - now that's smart. Or even worse "Why did they do that?". It is not often that I come across a piece of technology that just seems to have everything in it that I want.

I have been hunting for a little while now looking for a reasonably priced All-In-One Home Office printer/scanner copier. My mission has been to consolidate my study work desk so the concept of an All-In-One really appealed to me.

So, I have spent a lot of time in the Dick Smith's and Harvey Norman's looking for the perfect All-In-One. My requirements were simple:

  1. Print
  2. Scan
  3. Print from Memory Card / Camera
  4. Print Direct to DVD
  5. Connect to my home network

Sounds simple right! Yup, just as I thought. It appeared that I was having trouble finding a device that was both Network connectable and print directly DVD. Until I stumbled across the Canon PIXMA MP970. This device claimed to do everything I needed (and then some: 35mm Film scanning for instance).

I bought the device, brought it home and planned some time to install and configure the device. Allowing 3 hours - that should do it.

To my amazement, it took approximately 45 minutes to install. That was 20 minutes to get it unpacked, ink installed, powered etc. And 25 minutes to install the software. Oh yeah, that was the software on 3 computers. This thing just worked! Connected to the network - no problem. It is now installed and fully functioning.

The device is amazing - Copy, Scan, Print, Print on DVD, Print from film, print from camera, memory card etc. Oh, by the way, did I mention, this is all the stuff you can do without having the computer on.

Great device.

Canon - Double thumbs up!
